1979

1979 - The first club concept opens in Los Angeles, CA. The 100,000 square foot Urban Country Club immediately redefines the fitness industry.

The Club was one of the first to offer coed group exercise and yoga classes to Members.

Revolutionizing the health club experience, in 1984 the Clubs become the first to offer Private Training to Members.

1987

Acclaimed for offering its Members unparalleled services and programming, the Club expands offerings in 1987 to include the first Step Classes and launches its innovative, industry-leading children’s enrichment programming.

In order to elevate the level of Private Training available to Members, the Clubs become the first to require advanced and national certifications for instructors.  That same year, the Clubs introduced the fitness industry to dance-based group exercise classes and were also the first to offer nutritional services with a professional staff of Registered Dieticians in 1991.

In 1994, Sports Club/LA became the first to incorporate core strength training into group exercise programs and was among the first to incorporate boxing and kickboxing into mainstream fitness.

1995

The Company’s flagship club, Reebok Sports Club/NY, at 140,000 square feet, opens its doors in 1995.

In 1995, Sports Club/LA becomes the first to offer outdoor group exercise programs, dedicated Pilates studios, and live music accompaniment to group classes. That same year, the SCLA becomes one of the first to offer indoor group cycling through their proprietary REV™ program.

Sports Club/LA introduces balance boards, rollers and other specialized equipment on their fitness Fitness Floors.  In 1996, the Clubs become the first to offer balance training with private trainers.

2000

At 150,000 square feet, and hailed as the most spectacular Club ever built, Sports Club/LA – New York on the Upper East Side opens to Members in 2000, followed shortly by the opening of the 100,000 square foot Club in Washington, DC.

In 2001, Sports Club/LA - Boston opens its doors offering the power elite of Boston a 114,000 square foot Club. This same year Sports Club/LA - San Francisco joins the growing family with a 127,000 square feet.

Resetting expectations. In 2002 Sports Club/LA becomes one of the first Clubs to require that all of our Private Trainers receive intdustry recogognized certifications.

Influenced by the local flair and energy of Miami, Sports Club/LA - Miami opens its doors in 2003.

2006

An oasis above the city, Sports Club/LA opens first-of-their-kind Mind Body studios in Boston and San Francisco.  In January 2006, MPSCM was formed with the purchase of six Clubs from The Sports Club Company.

In 2007, Reebok Sports Club/NY opens its unriveled Mind Body studios, a tranquil oasis from the hustle of New York City.

Fun n' Fit

2009

Partnering with the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts to help young women discover enjoyment in exercise, Sports Club/LA develops the Fun n’ Fit badge in 2009.

Drawing inspiration from yoga and music, Sports Club/LA launches Vinyasa Vibes a series of yoga classes paired to the music of Grammy-nominated and award winning artists.

In 2012, Sports Club/LA announces the opening of a revolutionary new club concept called the jewel box.
