Mar 20, 2014

By Greg Corso, Private Trainer at Sports Club/LA - Miami

Boxing is often referred to as a high speed chess match. Every punch you throw creates an opening for attack. Every movement matters no matter how slight that movement is. Boxing is a game of millimeters and milliseconds. Progression is never ending—; the better your technique, the better the workout. Boxing is a skill set that is applicable and transferable to other sports and everyday life in general. It teaches you to persevere and to never give up by creating a sense of toughness and harmonious confidence in yourself. You learn to control your body, react, protect, and maintain balance, all while moving with fluidity and rhythm. It teaches you to think, react and move at an incredible pace.

Boxing training increases muscular endurance, strength and agility while improving cardiovascular condition. Boxing regulars will also see improvements in the following areas:

  • Hand-eye coordination
  • Body control
  • Balance
  • Quickness
  • Explosive ability
  • Mental toughness
  • Reaction speed
  • Ability to keep calm under pressure
  • Attention to detail
  • Awareness

As you can see, boxing training can bring many benefits to your physical and mental life. Whether it’s to build strength or endurance, build muscle, de-stress or to improve hand-eye coordination, boxing-style training will have a positive effect on your everyday life.
