8 Simple Ways to Perfect Skin

There are tons of products, lotions and anti-aging creams out there that promise clear, youthful looking skin. But before you dive into any products, check out this list of lifestyle remedies that will do wonders for your complexion.

1. Wash your face.

Washing your face every day is essential to keeping your pores clean and small. And it’s an easy solution to tackle the never-ending battle against pesky pimples.  Not only do your pores benefit, but your moisturizers and creams don’t have to work as hard to penetrate your skin.

2. Screen the sun.

Sun is the number one cause of aging. Whether it’s from natural sunlight or a tanning bed, UV rays will cause wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation and other scary forms of skin damage. The only way to protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays is to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day.

3. Hydrate inside and out.

We’ve all heard it before, “Drink eight cups of water a day.” While the amount varies, the principle holds true—our bodies depend on water to function. The same goes for moisturizing. Hydrating the skin combats aging, douses it with vitamins and keeps it bright. Moisturize and remember your friend SPF in the morning, and you’re well on your way to rocking your 60s Helen-Mirren style.

4. Sleep.

Get some Zs! There’s nothing a good night’s sleep can’t do for you. Fresh face? Check. Memory booster? Check. Stress reducer? Check. Get in your eight hours and live an overall healthier and happier life.

5. Get moving.

Not making time for exercise affects your complexion big time. Whether it’s a walk in the park or a yoga class, allowing your mind and body time to decompress is part of a healthy lifestyle and will keep your skin healthy, vibrant and clear.

6. Eat your greens.

Turns out your mom was right about eating your vegetables. Not only are they good for you, but they also contain antioxidants that fight free radicals, which cause aging from the inside out. Whoa – pass the Brussels sprouts! Your body absorbs antioxidants from the outside too, which is why it’s important your skin care products also offer Vitamins A, B, C and E.

7. Smile.

You know the saying, “It takes more muscles to frown than to smile.” Smiling boosts your mood and immune system, and makes you more attractive. It’s an instant, cost-free face lift!

8. Don’t pass up fat.

There’s bad fats (hold the fries) and then there’s healthy fats (mmm, avocado). Healthy fats not only taste good, but they also help the body absorb nutrients. Get healthy fats through olive oil, nuts and olives—to name a few.
